Rollers & hinges

A quieter, smoother door

Rollers guide the door along its tracks. Old steel rollers wear flat, their bearings dry out, and the door starts to grind, shake and get loud. Worn rollers can also pop out of the track and leave the door stuck.

We replace them with sealed nylon rollers that run quietly and do not need constant oiling, and we check the hinges and tracks at the same visit. It is one of the simplest ways to make a garage under a bedroom much quieter.

What we check

  • Rollers: flat spots, wobble, dry bearings
  • Hinges: cracks and worn pin holes
  • Tracks: bends, loose brackets, alignment
  • Lubrication of hinges, bearings and springs
  • Balance and safety-reverse test

Signs your rollers are worn

  • Grinding or squealing as the door moves
  • Door shakes or jerks along the track
  • Rollers wobble or look flat
  • Door came off the track
  • Cracked hinges between panels

Questions

Rollers Repair FAQ

How often should rollers be replaced?

Standard steel rollers often last around 10 years with normal use. Sealed nylon rollers usually last longer and run quieter.

Will new rollers make my door quieter?

In most cases, yes. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings are much quieter than worn steel rollers, especially with a belt-drive opener.

Can a roller cause the door to come off the track?

Yes. A worn or broken roller can slip out of the track, leaving the door crooked or stuck. Stop using it and call us.

Do I need to oil my rollers?

Sealed nylon rollers need little or no oil. Hinges and steel roller bearings benefit from a garage-door lubricant a couple of times a year.
